WELCOME TO BOX2BOX

ABOUT US

Box to Box Tumaini Academy is a 501(c503) non-profit organization whose mission is to develop, enable, and enhance the Lexington youth community through sports, positive experiences, and leadership development. Box to Box Tumaini Academy (BTBTA) is completely sustained by volunteers. The BTBTA volunteer family accomplishes our mission of personal growth and positive experiences through selected after school programs in an inclusive, safe, and welcoming atmosphere.

Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. box2box emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the community, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. We aim to level the playing field for refugees and new American students and their families by empowering them to become independent thinkers, high-achieving scholars, and productive citizens. As an organization we are committed to meeting the needs of our students. Our programs provide a unique environment that merges academic support through english proficiency; holistic, trauma-informed support; the confidence and socio-emotional skills to navigate a new culture and country; and a community wholly invested in each student through Middle School, High School, College and beyond.

At BTBA, every student practices soccer four days a week and every student is on a competitive team. This provides a common experience and collaboration, which circumvents barriers of language and culture whilst connecting students together with their coaches. Students are uniquely motivated to do well in their classes given the academic performance prerequisites for playing on the team.

Through Partnership with G.F.C and GOAL STATION. Weekend practices/games are an incentive for our students who get to participate in travel teams and games with their friends at no charge. At the moment, the cost of equipment and participation is wholly covered by the volunteers budget.

The BTBTA After School Program plans to serve children from grades 6th-12 and is open during the school year. BTB exists to level the playing field for immigrant youths and new American students by meeting thier learning needs and providing them with an opportunity to be part of a sports team.

There are 50 spots for students in our program in which BTBTA targets the Lexington youth refugees/immigrants: As Covid 19 continues to spread, we rely heavily on weekly Volunteers/ Mentors who commit to volunteering one day a week for the tutoring Soccer program and semester. Our tutors encourage, challenge, and build relationships with students and our future plans include providing job opportunities to leaders in the community.
